A homeland with universal character
Earth and sacred spaces
When we talk of finding sources of inspiration or strength, we don’t just mean in terms of musical excellence, the quest for an authentic musical language and uncompromising artistic quality. For our projects we seek out sacred spaces that – like the works of Old Masters and Mistresses that our ensemble brings to sound – have been invigorating and moving people for centuries.
Special soundscapes and natural spaces lend the concept albums an earthiness that simultaneously calms, inspires and invites you to dream.
Special spaces of sound and nature: an early classicist castle with French gardens giving the fairytale touch to films and photos, rugged mountain chains and enchanted forest clearings that accompany the musicological essays, and a Gothic church on a mountaintop more than 1,000 metres high as a recording location. All these ground the 1607 ensemble’s concept albums in a terrain that is at the same time calming, inspiring and an invitation to dream. Texts written as historical miniatures by renowned historians, such as Dr Alexander Bach, explain the special character of these places.
Geographical Foundation
Whether for rehearsing, making music, recording or photographing, everything needs a geographical foundation, an earth that bears us, gives a framework to everything we do, directs, inspires and influences us. Sacred spaces, pilgrimage sites, former Celtic sanctuaries, fairytale castles hidden in the forest, remote, scented mountain chains – these are the places we seek out. Their presence is felt in words, pictures and sound in our concept albums, as backdrop, soundspace, locations for creating or living.
In particular, we are connected to the region south of the main chain of the Alps, the south of Austria with its millennium-old cultural history, rugged mountains, glittering alpine lakes, medieval castles, protected natural environment, a region that both enlivens and soothes.
Centuries of tradition
A region where centuries-old preserved traditions are upheld and passed on with fire, beyond kitsch and cliche. In this Alpine environment and in the resonant architecture of its old churches and castles, we make our projects come to life – but that’s not all we do.
A place for old and new
This is a place for old and new, music and art, to come together and for an idea of Heimat, homeland, that has a universal character and leaves no one out, because there are sacred spaces everywhere in our world.
