“Early and New Music at its Finest”
or
Where music and fairytales are at home
Just like the old fairytale books say:
good things come in threes.
And it’s the same with favola in musica.
Founded by Maria Weiss, the association favola in musica. Musik- und Kulturverein with its 1607 ensemble and its label 1607 Records is synonymous with musical excellence, talented performers, exquisite multi-strand projects around Early and New Music and uncompromising quality in musicianship, artistry and production. And it offers an inspiring extra to entrance listeners:
a touch of fairytale magic and playful elegance – that nevertheless stays comfortingly close to the earth.
„The interpretations set out to make up for the differences in eras, to make all the arias sound radiant and vigorous, regardless of their period of origin. Quality of recording, as well as subtlety of interpretation make Maria Weiss’ album one of the most beautiful new releases of early music this year.
Our congratulations!“
(Helmut Jasbar, on the occasion of the presentation of the Ö1 Pasticcio Prize)
Our goal:
To seek the New in the Early and the Early in the New and to find that which endures.
Early Music is neither dusty nor stuffy; it’s a vibrant form and, in the case of Baroque music, mostly inspired by dances. We’ve made it our mission to blow some fresh wind through the sheet music. Our starting point is in-depth research, studying autographs and searching for an authentic musical language.
We bring musical splendours by Old Masters and Mistresses out of the archives of historical libraries and transport them with fresh élan into the now. Building on this musical inheritance, we work closely with contemporary composers such as Wolfgang Mitterer. The new emerges from the old:
Early ‘New’ Music: Never heard before by today’s ears.
New ‘Early’ Music: Contemporary works, inspired by Old Masters and Mistresses.
Baroque musical language meets bibliophile delicacies
At the heart of our artistic work, repeatedly praised in reviews (including Radio Ö1, Das Orchester) as Gesamtkunstwerke (‘total artworks’) and ‘true jewels’, are our
concept albums: CD and book as
MUSICAL ART BOOK.
What makes them special: their sounds are lovingly committed to a gleaming silver CD – with world-first recordings of Early and New Music – accompanied by what must technically be called a ‘booklet’ but is in fact a hardcover, half-linen volume with fine gold embossing, woven ribbon, thread stitching, finely structured paper and a touch of bookbinding craft.
Music, essays on the works, sacred spaces and their stories, recipes and much more:
a dream – celebrated in CD and book.
Only available from us: our CDs and concept albums, packed by hand in the finest tissue paper, wrapped up with a fine satin ribbon and a personal letter sealed with scented wax.
